Gray’s Inn Tax Chambers announces departure of Chris Broom

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

Our current Senior Clerk Chris Broom, is leaving Chambers on Tuesday 19th October 2021. He is, we understand, going to take 6 months off before, as he describes it, “moving on to the last hurrah”. We wish him well.

Many of you know Chris and have worked closely alongside him over the years. He has guided the practices of our members of Chambers and has been a source of support to newcomers in the Clerks’ room.

His ability to juggle the diary to everyone’s satisfaction and his close links with Court staff will be remembered and missed by us all and we wish him well in the next chapter of his life.

Gray’s Inn Tax Chambers are delighted to announce that as at the 20th October 2021, we will be promoting our existing superbly experienced Deputy Senior Clerk, Ben Stern, to the position of Senior Clerk to Chambers.

Ben has been with Chambers for over 20 years, and will already be well known to many of you.

Our Joint Heads of Chambers, Milton Grundy and David Goldberg QC, comment:

“We are very pleased that Ben is going to be our new Senior Clerk. He brings to the job a wealth of clerking experience, built up over the last 20 years. Because of Ben’s depth and breadth of experience in Chambers, he knows our members and clients very well. Ben has made an outstanding contribution to Gray’s Inn Tax Chambers over many years, and fully deserves this new appointment. His approach is to forge strong relationships with clients internationally and domestically and to deliver excellent customer service and showcase the talent within our chambers..

We are delighted with the new team, which we are confident will help Chambers remain as one of the leading Tax sets providing excellent customer service to all our clients”.

Ben Stern, who will, from 20th October 2021 becomes Senior Clerk said:

“I’m sure that when I walked into Chambers back in 2001 to be interviewed by Chris for the role of junior clerk, that neither of us would have thought we would then work together for more than 20 years. Chris’s encouragement and support has helped to create an environment that has made the Clerk’s room a great place to work. On behalf of the Clerks’ room, we wish him the very best of luck and hope that he enjoys his time away from London. I am grateful to Chris for all he has taught me and very much look forward to taking up my new position as Senior Clerk to Chambers.”
