Riya has a busy advisory and litigation practice spanning all areas of tax law, with a range of clients including individuals, companies, and tax authorities. She has experience advising clients on complex tax, trusts, and judicial review matters, and she frequently appears in Court and in the Tax Tribunals both as sole counsel and as junior counsel.
Riya is also on the Attorney General’s C Panel and is regularly instructed by HMRC. Her recent HMRC matters have involved large tax avoidance schemes, the transactions in securities legislation, capital allowances, and the transfer of assets abroad legislation. Alongside her UK matters, Riya has been instructed by the Mauritian Revenue Authority on Privy Council matters.
Riya read Law as an undergraduate and went on to complete the BCL at Merton College, Oxford, where she achieved a Distinction and came top of her year in the Business Taxation paper
